Ben Rowe

89/90 LEAGUE APPEARANCES: 10
GOALS: TWO
Ben Rowe was a talented young striker, whose goal away at Lincoln on the final day of the season put the cherry on top of the championship cake.
On the books as a junior with Bristol City, Ben had caught the attention of their former manager, Terry Cooper, who brought the young striker to St James Park for a trial in September 1989.
Having impressed, he was offered a full contract and made his Exeter City debut almost immediately when being introduced as a substitute in a 3-2 home win over Cambridge United.
However, Ben had to wait until the following March for his first start of the season, when he scored what turned out to be a consolation goal in the club’s 2-1 defeat away to Chesterfield.
He had more joy in his later appearances, including coming on as a sub in the title clincher at home to Scorborough on April 28, and a start on the last day where he scored the 129th – and final - goal of the season in the 5-1 hammering of Lincoln City
Ben remained at St James Park for one further season, but played most of his football for the reserves, before signing for Dorchester Town in March 1991 on a free transfer, with a proviso that City would receive 50 per cent of any future fee for the player.
