Player Spotlight : Phoebe Baker
Phoebe Baker is a central midfielder for Exeter City Women, renowned for her dynamic play and ability to dictate the game’s tempo. She began her career with Plymouth Argyle at sixteen, competing against prominent teams like Tottenham and Portsmouth. She then joined Yeovil Town’s Development team, facing reserve sides of top clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea. After a brief return to Plymouth, where she played primarily as a left-back, Phoebe moved to Bideford to rediscover her passion for football. Her impressive performances against Exeter City led to her recruitment by the Grecians.
Since joining Exeter, Phoebe has flourished in her preferred central midfield role. Her confidence has grown, bolstered by the support of the coaching staff and the strong team camaraderie. She has earned multiple Player of the Match awards and has been instrumental in the team’s successes. Notably, Phoebe scored in a commanding 12-0 FA Cup win against Saltash United, showcasing her scoring ability from midfield.
In the current 2024-2025 season, Phoebe continues to be a key player for Exeter City Women. She started in the FA Cup Fourth Round match against Sunderland Women on January 12, 2025. Earlier in the season, she contributed to a significant 5-1 victory over her former club, Plymouth Argyle, in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on November 24, 2024.
Phoebe previously before moving to Tiverton would commute from Torrington to Exeter for training and matches, demonstrating her dedication to the sport . Her journey reflects resilience and a continuous pursuit of growth, making her a vital asset to Exeter City Women.
