North Devonian Charlie Southcombe made a solitary Southern League appearance for Exeter City in November 1919 after impressing in an exhibition game in North Devon.  

After an outstanding display for a North Devon XI in a friendly  against Exeter City at Barnstaple Town on 19 November 1919, Charlie (who had played for his home town club South Molton for many years) immediately signed forms for City and was drafted into the first team for a midweek fixture at Watford a week later.

Playing alongside Henry Medcalf, who had also played in the game at Barnstaple, the 1-0 win proved to be Charlie's only first-team outing as he returned to play for South Molton.
