1986 Russell Black
Russell Black, together with team mate Don Peattie, was a triallist from Shefiield United who played in a hastily-arranged friendly against Watford at St James' Park on 15 February 1986.
Hailing from Dumfries - and son of long-serving Queen of the South player Bobby Black - he had moved (together with Peattie) from Gretna to Sheffield United in August 1984. Making 14 league appearances for the Blades (ten starts plus four from the bench), he had featured once on loan with Dundee United early in the 1985/86 campaign before arriving at Exeter City later in the season.
With nothing coming of his time with the Grecians, Russell was to enjoy a two-year stay with Halifax Town for whom he made 72 league appearances (14 goals) between 1986 and 1988.
