Neil was a centre half on trial from Taunton who played, and scored, against Newport in the Capital Finance and Leasing reserve league in January 1989.

Neil played for a number of clubs in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset and - in addition to Taunton - he enjoyed particularly notable stints at Bideford and Falmouth Town.
