Rhys Jones
Rhys, a goalkeeper, from Ilford who played against Newport in the Capital Finance and Leasing reserve league in January 1989.
"Rhys Jones, a 19-year-old former Colchester United trainee, is helping City out of their goalkeeping cover crisis. The club were left short of an A team 'keeper when Mel Gwinnett went out on loan to Yeovil Town last Friday. With City's third choice 'keeper Richard Smeath already sidelined through injury, Mike Radford was left scouring the country for a stand-in. Jones, just released by Colchester, came to the rescue and the 6ft 2in youngster made his debut in the 3-2 defeat at Cullompton in the Devon and Exeter League. His progress at Colchester waas limited by a serious facial injury but he has now completely recovered. He lives in Ilford, Essex, and City hope to have him down on trial next week when he should play for the reserves in the Capital Finance and Leasing League at Torquay United on Tuesday."
