Goalkeeper

Rhys, a teenage goalkeeper, was a former Colchester United apprentice who played against Newport County in the reserve league in January 1989.

Part trialist, part emergency cover, Rhys appeared for City's reserves in the absence of Mel Gwinnett and Richard Smeath.

Hailing from Ilford, Rhys's progess at Layer Road had been hampered by a serious facial injury.
