Scorer of two goals in Exeter City's first-ever FA Youth Cup game in 1952/53, John Chittenden was a sporting all-rounder who played for Exmouth Town for many years as well as enjoying a long club cricket career.

Born in 1936, John played youth football and represented Exeter Schools. Considered a "much sought-after player and prolific goalscorer" he played for Exeter City under-18s in the first season of the FA Youth Cup in 1952/53 when the Grecians beat Pinewood Youth Swindon (with John scoring twice) and lost to Bristol Rovers.

Going on to appear for Exmouth Town in the Exeter and District League, he was still playing in his mid-forties after the Southern Road club had joined the Western League.

An all-round sports player, he represented Devon at cricket, table tennis, badminton, swimming and water polo.

John died on the 4th July 2021

John went on to play for Exmouth Town for many years in local leagues & in the Western League where he was still representing them in his mid- forties.

He became a prolifoc sportsman going on to play at club level and represent Devon at Cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton, Swimming & Water Polo.
