Biographical Text
John Anderson played a single league game for Exeter City in 1925. Although he had recently been playing for South Molton, and was was publicised as a 'local amateur', he was actually from County Durham and had appeared in the Football League for Ashington.
During his late teens and early twenties he had played for a number of clubs including Crook Town, Workington, Shildon and West Stanley. Subsequently signing for Ashington, his new club failed to check his eligibility and, after fielding him in a FA Cup game, were later disqualified. Within months he had left the club and moved to Devon where he was playing for South Molton.
Recommended to City, he played for the reserves against Bideford and was given a first-team opportunity the following week - on 7 November 1925 - in the game at Southend United. Not required again, he played a few more games for South Molton before, it is assumed, returning to the North East.
