Peter Bennett made half-a-dozen appearances for Exeter City between 1959 and 1961. He joined the club from Plymstock and later played at Falmouth Town and Bideford where he was a prolific scorer for both clubs. He scored a hat-trick in one of his few games for the Grecians.
Working as a joiner in Plymouth, Peter had appeared for Exeter City ‘A’ in the South Western League before signing permanently from Plymstock in August 1959.
Making a goalscoring debut against Crewe Alexandra on 14 October 1959, he totalled five goals from his five appearances in 1959/60 including a hat-trick in the final game of the season against Doncaster Rovers.
Appearing just once during the following season, and having been transferred-listed in February 1961, Peter joined Falmouth Town in the summer where he was to enjoy two prolific spells with side of playing for Bideford. Winning trophies at both clubs - and reaching the first round of the FA Cup with Falmouth - Peter was fondly-remembered by the spectators of the time and died on 27 October 2016 aged seventy-six.
