Biographical Text

Despite his excellent return of goals for Exeter City, Bennett was surprisingly released at the end of the 1960-61 season.

The highlight of his two season stay at St James’ Park was the hat-trick he scored against Doncaster Rovers on 30th April 1960.
Bennett had been signed by Exeter from Plymstock in August 1959, although had played a few games in the City ‘A’ team in the South Western League prior to that. He made his goal scoring first team debut against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road on 14th October 1959, the game ending 1-1.
He played 35 games for City reserves in the Western League in 1960/61.

Transfer listed by the Grecians in February 1961, Bennett signed for South Western League side, Falmouth Town the following close season.

He netted an amazing 181 goals for Falmouth between 1961 and 1969. Bennett was an immediate success helping Falmouth to their first ever South Western League title, as well as completing the treble in 1961-62, as they won both the South Western League Cup and the Cornwall Senior Cup.
He had a spell at Bideford in 1963/64, where he scored 44 goals in 39 games, a club record at the time, as they won the championship.

Peter died on 27th October 2016, aged 76.
