Biographical Text

Signed from Scottish junior club, Bridgeton Waverley in February 1950, Brown spent all his stay at Reading playing for that club’s reserve side, which included netting 16 goals in 32 appearance during the 1950-51 season.

He was given a free transfer in August 1951 and within days he had moved to Exeter City.

He had to wait until the following month before he made his Football League debut when taking his place in a City side that defeated Walsall 1-0 at St James’ Park.

However, once again Brown found himself mainly confined to reserve team football and at the end of his one and only season with Exeter he was released to join Yeovil Town in July 1952.

After playing for Bridgwater Town, whom he joined in 1957, and later being appointed player-manager, Brown moved to Exmouth to live and in June 1968 became Landlord of the First and Last in the town.

In September 1968 he was assisting Exmouth Amateurs where he helped the club committee.

William died on the 29th August 1987
