Biographical Text
Scottish-born Billy Brown played a small number of games for Exeter City during the 1951/52 season. He joined the club from Reading and subsequently played for Yeovil Town. He later lived in Exmouth.
Billy signed for Reading from Scottish junior club, Bridgeton Waverley in February 1950. He spent all of his stay at Reading playing for club’s reserve side including netting 16 goals in 32 appearances during the 1950/51 season.
Billy was given a free transfer in August 1951 and moved to Exeter City making his debut against Walsall on 8 September. He then appeared in the following two games before dropping to the reserves only to re-appear for the first-team in a run of four games towards the end of the season.
Given a free transfer he signed for Yeovil Town in July 1952 before joining Bridgwater Town where he became player-manager. Living in Exmouth, Billy became landlord of the First and Last in the late 1960s and also assisted Exmouth Amateurs where he served on the committee.
Billy died on 29 August 1987.
