Saturday, October 4.

CARDIFF CITY 1 EXETER CITY 0.

Three cherished records went by the board today, when Exeter City, Watford, and Bristol City had their first taste of defeat this season. Pym played an excellent game in goal, and had hard luck in being beaten at all, for Cardiff scored in a decidedly lucky fashion. Pym saved two low shots in quick succession, and was on the ground after stopping the second one. When the ball came in for the third time, however, it struck the goalkeeper on his shoulder and rebounded into play, so that Cox, rushing up, had no difficulty in merely tapping it into the unguarded goal. The game had then been in progress for twenty minutes.

Cardiff:- Kneeshaw; Cassidy, Layton; Harvey, Smith, Keenor; Beare, Devlin, Cox, Barnett, and Evans.

Exeter: Pym; Coleburne, Strettle; Rigby, Popplewell, Mitton; Connor, Oldacre, Goodwin, Lovett, and Dockray.

Referee:- Mr D.J. Sambrook, of Swansea.

EXETER'S RECORD GONE: FIRST DEFEAT

Although there was a strong counter-attraction in the Rugby Union match between Cardiff and Newport, 13,000 spectators were present at Ninian Park to see Exeter's unbeaten record go by the board through a goal scored in the twentieth minute by W. Cox, Cardiff City's new centre forward.

Exeter perhaps thought too much of that record, for it seemed to influence their play. Had it not they might have quite easily won, for they were the cleverer side. The Welsh team were without Brittan, who was deputised by Cassidy, and Grimshaw, their inside right, but Devlin proved a capable substitute, and the play of the three inside men was most effective.

Cardiff Had Ten Men.

For part of the game Cardiff played with only ten men, Layton being injured, whilst on his return Keenor was hurt, and had to be carried off on a stretcher.

The City introduced some rough and over vigorous methods into their game, with Mitton, in particular, conceding several freekicks for fouls. Pym was brilliant in goal, and did more than anyone in keeping the score to one-nil.

Royal Artillery v City Reserves

Exeter City Reserves were engaged in a friendly at the Topsham Barracks against the Royal Artillery. Nothing was scored.

TIVERTON V EXETER CITY RESERVES

Thursday, October 2.

Tiverton 3 City Reserves 4.

Exeter City Reserves visited Tiverton today, and played the Town club in a friendly match in aid of the carnival funds.

Tiverton opened the score through Dymond, their centre forward but Lincoln equalised. Just before half-time Dymond scored again for the Town.

Fisher headed the ball between the posts for the Reserves, for whom Barnard scored two more goals. Tiverton obtained a third goal through Dymond.

Result: Tiverton 3, City Reserves 4.
