NORWICH CITY v. EXETER CITY

Grecians Spoil the Canaries' Record

Saturday, December 13.
Rosary Road, Norwich.

NORWICH CITY 0 EXETER CITY 0.

A goalless draw was disappointing for Norwich, who had won all their seven previous home matches. The game, however, which was seen by a crowd of eight thousand people, was one of the best at the Norwich ground this season. The Canaries were desperately keen to preserve their fine record, and showed it by their style of play. Exeter adapted themselves remarkably well to the ground and gave Norwich all they could have hoped for in a vigorously contested game.
The teams were :

NORWICH CITY
Lansdale
Gray Smith
Hall Jennings Martin
Herbert Broadhead Doran Hawes Kirk

Referee: Mr C.W. Annal, of London.

Dockray Lovett Goodwin Makin Oldacre Mitton Popplewell Rigby
Medcalf Coleburne
Pym
EXETER CITY

A fast pace was maintained all the way through, and forwards did not shine so well as in some matches the play of the half-backs and backs was an attractive and dominating feature. Norwich had to make a late change in the composition of their team. Edward Laxton, outside-right, came out with the side, but in the preliminary "kick about" he wrenched a leg muscle, and he was substituted by Herbert, who played in a friendly match for Exeter last season.

Oldacre was a conspicuous success on his first appearance at outside right in the Exeter team. The game was even, but Doran was twice unlucky when his shots hit the goalposts and missed when he seemed certain to score. Pym was responsible for his usual quota of saves, and Exeter's best player.
