GRECIANS WIN AFTER A STIFF STRUGGLE
Saturday, January 31.
At the Vetch Field, Swansea.
SWANSEA TOWN 0 EXETER CITY 1.
Sunshine followed a wet morning at Swansea, and in the absence of any counter-attraction a huge crowd was expected at the Vetch Field. The ground, on which Exeter were making their first appear ance, has nothing in the way of enhancing characterictics, but it is central, and high cinder banks provide plenty of accommodation, whilst the sandy soil affords excellent drainage.
Swansea, like Exeter, were in a quandary regarding the centre forward position, eventually choosing Pinch, a half-back. Lovett led the City attack, flanked by Makin and Henderson.

EXETER CITY
Somewhat unexpectedly Exeter City snatched both points from the Welsh team by scoring a goal seven minutes from the close. Dockray centred low, and Henderson whipped in a rasping drive which passed over the heads of a group of players into the net.
Makin appeared to have helped the ball home with his head, but he gave credit to Henderson for the goal, and hearty congratulations from Henderson's delighted colleagues were the order of the day. Ten thousand spectators were disappointed with the general play of Swansea, who lacked cohesion, and except for a few spasmodic efforts, combination was distinctly lacking. The Grecians, on the other hand, exhibited much better form as a team, and deserved their victory, although it was not achieved without a struggle.
CITY RESERVES V GREEN WAVES.
Plymouth and District League match, at St James's Park. The ground, though a little heavy, was in excellent condition, but the stiff wind which prevailed put the players under a handicap. Nevertheless, a brilliant game resulted, which the City Reserves won by three goals to two.
The visitors were first out, appearing in green jerseys with a white cross on the left breast, and winning the toss, placed the City facing the sun. The game was won in the first half, and in remarkable fashion, for after Squires and Beam had given Green Waves a two goals lead, Exeter came back with a vengeance, first Chown, then Sanders scoring, and finally Goodwin obtaining the winner with a shot from the left following clever combined play between Connor and Lincoln.
Reserves:- Loram; Lovell, Medcalf; Perry, Powell, Chown; Collins, Sanders, Goodwin, Connor, and Lincoln.
Green Waves:- Edwards; Kingwell, Parker; Rickard, Neetersonne, Phillips; Rogers, Beam, Gilbert, Hartle, and Squires.
