Rangers v City

AN EXCITING GAME ENDS IN A DRAW

Saturday, February 21,
at Shepherd's Bush, London.

QUEEN'S PARK RANGERS 0 EXETER CITY 0.

Today the City visited the new quarters of the West London organisation, Queen's Park Rangers, at Loftus Road, Shepherd Bush, in search of Southern League points.

The Grecians, who travelled from St David's this morning, got to their destination with an hour or so to spare, welcomed the return of Jimmy Rigby. Popplewell was left out for the first time this season, Mitton occupied the centre half berth, and Crawshaw continued at wing half. The Rangers announced two changes. Mitchell was suffering from a knee injury, and Whyman deputised at centre-half, whilst Fox operated at outside left, Donald having been transferred during the week, to Chelsea.

The afternoon was cold, but bright, and the ground appeared to be in good condition, although on the soft side. The Rangers were first out in their green and white stripes, and were followed by Rigby's brigade, on their heels, so to speak. Jimmy celebrated his return to the team by winning the toss, and Exeter commenced the game with the breeze in their favour. Queen's Park Rangers, who were held to a draw by lowly Gillingham two weeks ago, again failed to win at home, but their game against Exeter City, at Shepherd's Bush, furnished a good display of hard, and at times, exciting football for the crowd of nine thousand people.

In the first half the City were seen to better advantage than the Rangers, who had to face a stiff wind, but although Exeter's forwards combined nicely, and a number of accurate centres were put across by Oldacre and Dockray, the attacks generally broke down against the good positional play and tackling of Blackman and Wingrove.

The second half was very much in favour of the Rangers, and it was only the strong defence of Coleburne and Strettle, fine goalkee ping of Pym, that prevented them from gaining the and the victory. Time after time the home forwards attacked with great dash and determination, and Pym had a variety of shots to with from Smith, Birch, and Gregory, but he was unbeatable, and deal in fact scarcely ever seemed to be in any difficulty, and some of his clearances were of the highest order. He even saved Smith's penalty kick, awarded against Strettle for "hands."

The Exeter forwards received fewer chances in the second half, but taking the game as a whole their work compared well with that of the Rangers' quintette.

CITY RESERVES V TAVISTOCK.

Tavistock were the visitors to St James's Park, Exeter, today, in an encounter with the City Reserves in connection with the Plymouth and District League. Loram, the captain of the Reserves, was absent owing to a severe attack of rheumatism, and his place in goal was taken by Roach, of the East Devon League.

RESERVES:
Roach;
Twooze, and Medcalf;
Powell, Lovell, and Chown;
Connor, Green, Sanders, Henderson, and Lincoln.

TAVISTOCK: -
Redstone;
Kerswell, and Walker;

Green won the toss and placed the visitors facing the sun. A fine run was made by Lincoln, who beat Southcote. The ball was put through to Henderson, whose shot went over the bar. Exeter scored through Green and Henderson, and a goal by Roberts for the visitors was followed by another from Henderson.

Play greatly favoured Exeter Reserves after the interval, and chances fell to Green, Lincoln, and Henderson, but each one was missed. Eva scored for Tavistock one minute from the end.
