City v  Swindon:

PYM'S BRILLIANT DISPLAY:
EXETER'S DECISIVE VICTORY:

Medcalf Transferred to Swindon Town

Saturday, February 28,
at St. James's Park.

EXETER CITY 3 SWINDON TOWN 1.

Harry Medcalf, the full back from Bideford Town, who assisted Exeter City as an amateur in the Watford and Crystal Palace games last November, and was then signed on as a professional, has left the club. He was given a free transfer yesterday to Swindon Town, who have been advertising for first-class backs and halves.

Speculation was rife in Exeter yesterday as to whether or not Medcalf would line up with the "Railwaymen" at St James's Park, but upon their arrival here Swindon announced that they would rely on precisely the same eleven as defeated Swansea Town last week at the County Ground. Exeter made one change, Rigby having to stand down because of illness.

The afternoon was dull, and just before the start a drizzle of rain came on. Swindon, always popular visitors to Exeter, were given a flattering reception by a crowd of over 7,000 on taking the field this afternoon. Fleming won the toss against Pym, who was "skippering" the Grecians in Rigby's enforced absence.

The Railwaymen opened in promising fashion, and clever moves by Batty and Davies threatened danger, but Pym was especially watchful and saved Exeter several times. It was not until thirty minutes had passed that the City opened the scoring. The ball was swung out wide to Oldacre, who cut in past Clayton and Weston and cleverly passed to Makin for the inside right to score with his right foot. Swindon soon equalised from the extreme right, Tout
feeding Travers, who gave Pym no chance from close in. Goodwin, two minutes later, met a perfect centre from Dockray and scored, the City at the interval leading by two goals to one.

The second half was by no means as brilliant as the first, the defences generally being superior to their opposing forwards, but Makin added Exeter's third goal after clever work by Crawshaw. Swindon made desperate efforts to pull the game round, and one save by Pym from Fleming bordered on the miraculous. Pym was in his most brilliant form in the late stages of the game, and less capable goalkeeper than he would have been beaten more than once in that period.

EXMOUTH UNITED v. EXETER CITY

Friendly Match at the Seaside

STUBBORN HOME DEFENCE

Wednesday, March 3. 1920

Played at Exmouth Cricket Ground.

EXMOUTH UNITED O EXETER CITY 5.

Glorious weather favoured the visit of Exeter City to Exmouth today in fulfilment of the eagerly awaited engagement to meet Exmouth United in a friendly. The venue was the cricket ground, an admirable enclosure on the sea front. Arrangements had been made by the officials of the local club, under the leadership of Mr Bert Taylor. The Grecians fielded their full Southern League team, with the exception of Makin, who was given a rest, and his place was filled by W.Gill, the new inside right from Bury, who was making his first appearance. There were about one thousand people in attendance when the teams took the field at 3.25.

Rigby won the toss but gave the choice of ends to Exmouth, and the City kicked off facing the sun. Exeter applied pressure with Dockray leading the attack, but a goal-kick relieved Exmouth. A superb dash by the home right wing resulted in a corner off Strettle, but Channing's flag kick went behind. At the other end Goodwin drove from the edge of the penalty area, Clapp failing to hold the ball, which went into the net for the opening goal. Lovett and Mitton added further goals before half-time, and in the second half Oldacre and Mitton completed the scoring.
