Biographical Text

Walter Casson played a small number of games for Exeter City in the mid-1920s. He joined the club from Pontypridd and had also appeared for Blyth Spartans, South Shields and Grimsby Town.

A boilermaker in the shipyard at Wallsend, Walter played for Blyth Spartans before being given a Football League chance with South Shields in 1920/21 when he netted two goals in nine appearances. He then joined Grimsby Town and added a further five goals from 19 league starts.

Moving into the Southern League with Pontypridd, Walter scored over 50 goals in three seasons and was given another Football League opportunity by Exeter City in the summer of 1925.

Scoring on his debut against Bristol Rovers on 9 September 1925, he added further goals against Gillingham and Newport but soon lost his place in the side before returing to the North East. 

Walter died in the Blyth area in 1965.
