SOUTHERN LEAGUE:
EXETER CITY v BRIGHTON AND HOVE.
This was a very enjoyable sporting game in which less than half a dozen free kicks were given all the way through. Whiting was in his most brilliant form in the Brighton goal, despite damaging his hand in stopping a drive from Chadwick.
Brighton packed their goal whenever the City forwards threatened danger, and scoring attempts were rare. On the few occasions Brighton got near the Exeter goal Robinson was in his usual excellent form. Exeter's goal, the only one of the match, came in the 75th minute. Parnell beat Atkinson and Stewart, and tipped over a fine centre to Bell, who headed the ball into the top of the net. After this Bell was more closely marked than ever, but he led his line well, and he has thoroughly justified his new position of centre forward. Crelley, playing in his old Everton form, was the best back on the field, and Robinson, though having less to do than Whiting, played a valuable part in the victory.
