Plymouth League:
South Staffs Regiment 4, City Reserves 3.
The teams met at St. James's Park yesterday afternoon in connexion with the Plymouth and District League, the match resulting in a win for the visitors by four goals to three. Owing to the official referee not putting in an appearance. the game was taken charge of" by a local gentleman, who, however, proved far from a success, his detection of infringments being the exception rather than the rule, while on several occasions he pulled players up when, as far as the spectators could see, there was absolutely nothing wrong. What might have otherwise proved an interesting game was thus spoilt. Under the circumstances, a draw would have been the fairest result.
In this Plymouth and District League match at Exeter yesterday afternoon play in the first half ruled even, Rendle and Jones scoring for the visitors, and Singlehurst, Eveleigh, and McGuigan for the City. The Reserves had the better of matters at the opening of the second moiety, but then the Soldiers broke away, and after Mislicrap had equalised, Jones scored again for them.
