Match 05
18th September 1909
Southern League
Millwall (a)

Plymouth and District League
Babbacombe (h)

Saturday, September 18th.
SOUTHERN LEAGUE:
MILLWALL ATHLETIC v EXETER CITY.
At East Ferry Road.

A goalless draw did Millwall an injustice on the one hand, and flattered the Grecians on the other. Millwall, in fact, had so much of the play that they deserved to take both points, and that by a quite comfortable margin.

MILLWALL:
Joyce; Stevenson, and Jeffrey; Garratt, Wilson, and Blythe; Waller, Morris, Twigg, Jones, and Semple.

EXETER CITY:
Crossthwaite; Crelley, and Jones; Atkinson, Chadwick, and Ambler;
Copestake, Watson, Mc Guigan, Bell, and Garside.

Referee: Mr A. Shallcross, Leek.

Millwall were quickly on the attack, and after a few minutes Semple found the net with a good shot, but was given offside. Twigg hit the side of the net, and Morris shot wide before the City had settled down. The balance of play was more even in the second half, but Millwall were still on top, and the only Exeter players who earned distinction were Crossthwaite and Chadwick. With only two points from their first five matches Exeter City have made a poor start to the season, and are 19th in the League table.

PLYMOUTH LEAGUE:
CITY RESERVES v BABBACOMBE.

The Reserves gained their first victory of the season in defeating Babbacombe by 5 - 3 at St. James's Park. Attendance 2000. Housego opened the scoring for Babbacombe with a good shot from 20 yards, but Hartley equalised, also with a long shot. Germain (from a penalty) but the visitors in front, but Harrison and Sims scored for Exeter. In the second half Green (from a penalty) and Harrison added goals for the City, and Milford scored for Babbacombe.

RESERVES: Sturge; Heppell, Robins; E.Wells, Hartley, Letheren; Green, Hopkins, Harrison, Sims, and Capper.

BABBACOMBE: Crute; Birbeck, Prowse; Packe, Udranfski, Bartlett; Milford, Housego, Germain, Gilchrist, and Frayne.
