The Southern Charity Cup
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE v. EXETER CITY
Played at Home Park. Owing to the charges for the grandstand being increased, there was a great falling off in the attendance, and less than 3000 people turned out. These included many from Exeter, who had travelled on the railway excursions.
Plymouth Argyle were without Sutcliffe, Evenson, and Broome, for whom Horne, McCormick, and Raymond deputised. Chadwick was the City's only absentee, Tierney again taking over the centre half position.

CITY
Both teams opened at a lively pace. Bell was dangerous in the first minute, and Griffiths forced Crossthwaite to handle a minute later. Exeter played with plenty of dash and energy and had the best of the opening half an hour. A fierce drive by Mc Guigan was tipped over the bar by Horne in brilliant fashion, but towards half-time Plymouth came slightly more into the game.
The Argyle began the second half on the offensive, but their shooting was weak. Raymond missed an open goal, while Hindmarsh and Burch also missed from good positions.mmThe only goal was scored by Hartley from a penalty, awarded against Atterbury for handling the ball during a prolonged siege on the Argyle goal. Hartley easily beat Horne from the "spot" with a well directed shot into the corner. Mc Cormick had the chance of a lifetime to level the scores in the last minute, but shot too high.
