Southern League Match,
at St. James's Park.
EXETER CITY v. PORTSMOUTH

Portsmouth kicked off against a strong sun and wind. After some early play round the Portsmouth goal Harrison tested Cope, but the goalkeeper was equal to the situation. The Portsmouth forwards took play to the other end, and Crossthwaite had a few anxious moments before the ball was cleared.
Exeter replied with a veritable hail of shots, but Cope remained unbeaten. One scorching shot from Green brought the goalkeeper to his knees, and an exciting melee formed in the goalmouth, the ball being somehow scrambled away. After 40 minutes Harrison side-footed in a centre from Green, and almost immediately afterwards headed his second goal, this time from Garside's centre.
Half-time:
Exeter City 2 goals, Portsmouth 0.

The City opened the second half in their very best style. Warner had to concede a corner from which the ball went to Harrison, whose quick shot went into the net to complete his "hat-trick".
BUICK INJURED:
Repeat of Last Season:

An unfortunate incident marred an interesting game when Buick was charged by Green and fell heavily against the boundary railings, breaking his arm. It was recalled that in the corresponding match of last season Smith, of the same team, broke a leg.
TWO MORE GOALS:
Biggest Win of the Season:
Watson and Bell completed the scoring, giving the City by far their biggest win of the season. They are now 15th in the League table. The attendance was 2000.

CITY:
Crossthwaite; Crelley, and Jones;
Atkinson, Tierney, and Hartley; Green, Watson, Harrison, Bell, and Garside.

PORTSMOUTH:
Cope; Warner, and Clipstone; Beaumont, Buick, and Yates; Birtles, Kirby, Bowman, McMahon, and Dix.

Referee: Mr A.E. Farmer.
