SOUTHERN LEAGUE:
CITY v MILLWALL

Dockers Beaten 5 - 0
at St. James's Park

There was a welcome change in the weather at Exeter for the return match between the City and Millwall Athletic, and a crowd of 5,000 attended at St. James's Park. The ground was naturally very heavy following the thaw, but at the same time the football was fairly interesting. Exeter City rose to the occasion in splendid style, and Iwon by five clear goals. Last season's game between these clubs was played at Christmas. On that occasion Millwall were beaten by two goals to one after scoring first. The City's goals were obtained by Bell and McGuigan. Millwall and Exeter have always preserved a friendly relationship, for not only did the London club play a prominent part in the formation of the Southern League in 1894, they also gave Exeter City their support and encouragement in the matter of the Grecians applying for professional and Southern League status two years ago. Teams for today's match:
EXETER CITY
Crossthwaite Crelley Jones Atkinson Tierney Hartley Copestake Watson Green Bell Garside

Referee:- Mr. B. M. Neville, of London.

Twigg Vincent Martin Garrett Morris Blythe Wilson Frost Jeffrey Atkinson
Carmichael
MILLWALL

The visitors kicked off and straight away took the ball into the vicinity of the Exeter goal. They showed lively attacking ideas in the game's early stages, but their forwards were nearly always checked by Atkinson, Tierney, and Hartley between them. The first half produced Some keen play on both sides, but the only score was a goal to the City, Green sending the ball through from a pass by Watson. There was a remarkabl change after the interval. Exeter completely monopolised the play, their forwards practically running the Millwall defence to a standstill. Ten minutes after the resumption Watson added the second goal. A temporary stop was caused through an injury to Carmichael, but he resumed after the attentions of the trainer. From then to the finish it was only a question of how many goals Exeter would win by, and in fact three more were scored, Green, Bell, and Copestake bringing the total to five. Copestake's goal was the most popular, being a clever single-handed effort.

RELIABLE HALF-BACKS
Exeter City were undoubtedly the superior side, and their display proved most encouraging. Atkinson, Tierney, and Hartley, the three half-backs, despite the heavy going, gave their forwards some very excellent passes, and it was without question the work of the home intermediate line which brought success. At the same time it must be said that the forwards gave probably their best exhibition of the season at St. James's Park. Green's reappearance in the centre consequent upon the recovery of Garside improved the line greatly, and there can be no doubt that he has fallen into the centre-forward position with clear success. Bell and Garside were always a dangerous wing, but in Frost they ran up against a most energetic half-back. On the other wing Watson and Copestake were invariably too great a handful for Blythe. All the half backs in the City team did well, and Jones and Crelley were, if anything, superior to the Millwall backs. A particular weakness on the visiting side was the ineptitude of their forwards, particularly in the second half. Innumerable chances came their way, but Twigg, who looked the most dangerous, should have been made better use of, for he was practically starved of the ball during the second half. Of the visiting half-backs Frost was the most conspicuous, and at back Jeffrey was superior to his partner. But the outstanding player of the side was Carmichael, who brought off some magnificent saves despite suffering an injury, and cannot be blamed in the least for the scoring.
Result
Exeter City 5 goals, Millwall nil.

PLYMOUTH LEAGUE:
Liskeard 2 goals, City Reserves 1.
