Brighton and Hove Albion 2, Exeter City 1.

Both teams were strongly represented on the Brighton ground in fine weather before a crowd of about eleven thousand. Longstaff opened the scoring for Brighton from a pass by Hastings, but Bell equalised, and at the interval the game stood at one each. Brighton showed superior form in the second half, and Jones, from a free kick, restored their lead. Subsequently the Exeter City goal had several narrow escapes, Crossthwaite making a number of excellent saves.

Brighton are now top of the League with 47 points, followed by the Rangers (44) and Crystal Palace (41). Exeter (30 points) are 15th.

Brighton:- Whiting; Blackman, Leeming; Booth, McGhie, Haworth; Longstaff, Middleton, Jones, Webb, and Hastings.

Exeter City:- Crossthwaite; Crelley, Jones; Atkinson, Ambler, Hartley; Green, Watson, McGuigan, Bell, and Garside.

The City Reserves played an extra match in an effort to overtake some of their outstanding Plymouth League fixtures. Their match at Looe, in which they were defeated by a goal to nil, was preceded by a visit to Oreston Rovers, who beat them by four goals to one.
