Friendly Match.
EXETER CITY v OXFORD CITY

Famous Amateur Side at St.James's Park

This afternoon, in fine weather but before a small crowd, Exeter City concluded their holiday programme with a friendly match against the famous amateur team, Oxford City. The Exeter eleven included Drew and White, two locals, while the visitors, who appeared to be a big heavy set of players, were well represented.
EXETER CITY:
Crossthwaite; White, and Jones; Tierney, Ambler, and Atkinson; Green, Bell, McGuigan, Hartley, and Drew.
OXFORD CITY
F.A.Gillams;
A.H.Frost, and F.W.Hadland; A.J.Harrison, E.F.Hall, and F.Varney; F.J.Draper, A.J.Bright, A.Weston, H.C.Greenfield, and A.H.G.Kerry.

Exeter City, with the sun at their backs, at once attacked, and Bell scored after ten minutes from a pass by McGuigan. The City continued to do much as they liked, though the amateurs made one good burst upfield which resulted in a corner. Greenfield, however, with a hopeless shot, put yards wide, and just afterwards McGuigan again got his forwards in action, and after a dribble by Hartley, Drew ran round two opponents and scored the second goal.
Subsequently Crossthwaite saved a hot shot from Weston, and then Gillams got in the way of one of Hartley's patent pile-drivers, and the crowd laughed at the wry face he pulled as a consequence. There were several amusing incidents in front of Oxford ' s goal after this, and the lengthy Gillams cut all manner of antics in his efforts to prevent a further score.
Half-time:
Exeter City 2 goals, Oxford City nil.

Oxford started the second half at a brisk pace, and after netting once subsequent to the whistle sounding for offside, Weston reduced the lead with a good shot. The visitors played up well after this, and for a time made quite a good match of it. Atkinson, however, added fresh life to the City by going up forward and scoring from a pass by McGuigan, and then adding a fourth for the City after getting the ball as it bounced off Frost. At the other end Crossthwaite saved a sharp grounder from Bright, and Weston made a good attempt to reduce the lead. Having already obtained two goals Atkinson could easily have completed a hat-trick, but he skied the ball miles over when absolutely underneath the bar. Green had four shots in succession charged down, and directly after this Oxford went down in a line and Bright put on their second goal. Ten minutes later Draper dodged White and got clean through, Weston scoring again from his centre.
Result
Exeter City 4 goals, Oxford City 3.
