Plymouth and District League
City Reserves v St Austell

Saturday, April 2nd 1910.
Southern League:
Reading v Exeter City.

In defeating their hosts by a goal to none at Elm Park, Reading, Exeter City did not altogether cover themselves with glory. Never at any part of the game did the exchanges get out of the rut of aimless kicking and misdirected passes, and it is not being too severe to say that the match was played through without one flash of brilliancy by any one player.
The men were evidently weary in the extreme, and the probability is that they were stale after their heavy Easter engagements. Moreover, the ground was as hard as an ashphalt path, and the ball appeared to be altogether too light and lively for those who had to foot it.
GARSIDE'S GOAL
The opening stages found the players fairly evenly matched, and it continued in this way throughout the struggle. Some interesting runs by the forwards and accurate feeding by the half backs of Exeter City stood out as a relief for some time, and towards the interval one of these efforts led to the only goal of the match. Chadwick brought up Martin quite neatly, and he followed this with an accurate pass to Bell, who in turn put Garside through. Exeter's outside left went on to defeat Caldwell with a very good cross shot.

Reading:- Caldwell; West, Whichelow; Butler, Hancock, Slater; Bartholomew, Dodsworth, Martin, Reynolds, and Lee.

Exeter City:- Crossthwaite; Crelley, Jones; Ambler, Chadwick, Hartley; Green, Atkinson, McGuigan, Bell, and Garside.

PLYMOUTH LEAGUE:
St. Austell 2 City Reserves 1,
