Exeter lost their unbeaten run of 15 games, their first League and Cup defeat since Good friday and they put up a disappointing display after their Sheffield Wednesday match, They were sluggish and disorganised and never got goingbut even so they could have taken at least a point. At half time they were winning and one had the feeling that if City had survived the early stages of the second half, Doncaster would probably have become more desparate and might have played into their hands, City did not survive, and within 8 minutes of the restart Doncaster were ahead, They got another after 72 minutes to put them well on top, Jeffrey scored three times, he was a constant menace to the City defence and needed to be marked tightly at times, he scored in the 48th, 53rd, and 72nd minutes to complete his hat-trick, It was certainly disappointing ExeterThey did not run and the eagerness to want the ball seemed to be missing. The only two players to come out with any credit where John Mitten and Peter Shearing, Exeter had taken the lead in the 31st minute when Jimmy Blain neatly chipped the ball over Gavin's head as the goalkeeper moved out following an intended back pass which fell short,
Match Summary
All good things must come to an end, but City really came down to earth with a bump in this game when we were only a pale shadow of the lively com bination which humbled First Division opponents. Even so we took the lead when Jimmy Blain was quick to take
advantage of a bad pass-back to the Doncaster goal keeper, but we never really asserted our selves, and when, in the second half, Rovers' danger man, Alick Jeffery, was allowed more room than he should have been he revelled in his freedom and netted not one or two goals, but three!
