How long ago was it that Exeter City won two away games in three days? It must be quite a time After Darlington on Saturday, City thoroughly deserved their win over York to make it amemorable weekend of football, It was York's first home defeat of the season in a game that was played in pouring rain thunder, and lightningThe York supporters chanted for the resignation of their directors and Police had to intervene, Exeter City were easily the better side, both their goals came from Alan Banks. The first after 8 minutes when Dave Pleat chipped a fine cross to the far post and Banks scored with a diving header, His second goal in the 72nd minute was a classic, he ran more than half the length of the field, pushed the ball to Mike Balson, took a return pass, and scored from 20 yards, There were a couple of anxious moments for City, Taylor should have scored after a mistake in the City defence. Although Exeter did not play as well as they did at Darlington, they were still worthy winners, The league position of Exeter has improved overnight, they are now halfway up the table,

Match Summary

After Alan Banks had put us ahead in the eighth minute there was never any doubt as to which way the points were going to go. City were well and truly in command and Alan sealed victory with a great goal mid-way through the second half. Conditions were bad and it was impossible to play good football. All the more credit to Exeter for getting the better of the home side.
