Determination fight and effort, three vital statistics for any football team, and the quicker some of the Exeter City players learn from this elementary lesson the better it is going toi be for everyone, City are now the only Fourth Division side without a point. Their defeat can be summed up in a few words, lack of effort by some of the players,

Exeter played badly. The forward line did not function a great deal, Urgency was missing when it was needed, Exeter created just one chance and Dermot Curtis hooked the ball wide, Bruce Stuckey, City's best forward, hit the County bar in the second half, but in general Exeter's forward play was a big disappointment. Curtis went off injured after 65 minutes to be replaced by Mike Balson,

Match Comment

Notts County's success was not the result of superior man to man ability, but on the day they were prepared to work harder than City, Professional football is harder as it goes down through the leagues and when it comes to the bottom division, 90 minutes of football effort is vital, Everyone must pull together their weight, Surely this is not asking a lot once a week? The biggest trouble here was lack of all-out effort. There were exceptions, but you can't expect these players to win the side a point in a Fourth Division game away from home if some of their col leagues are not pulling their weight. From Notts County's angle or our own this was not the kind of game likely to raise much enthusiasm among the supporters, but County got two points with a goal by Jack Smith in the 31st minute.
