Biographical Text

Fred Corbett was a wartime guest player for Exeter City during 1944/45 when, as the situation eased, a number of games were organised to constitute the first football played by the club since 1939. He had earlier played for Birmingham, Torquay, Manchester City and Lincoln.

He is recorded as playing for Exeter against Plymouth Argyle in January 1945.

Fred commenced his career with Birmingham City in 1927 but never made the first-team before, having appeared for Worcester City, joining Torquay United in 1929 where he featured in 21 league games. He subsequently joined Manchester City in 1932 together with fellow Torquay player Sid Cann (who played in the 1933 FA Cup final). With Fred making just five league appearances for the Maine Road club, he moved to Lincoln City in 1936 where he featured on a regular basis until the outbreak of war.

Fred died on 20 November 1974 in Kiddermister.
