Alan Banks was the hero of Exeter City's second away win of the season which greatly boosted their chances of climbing out of the bottom four spotHe shot the all important winning goal in the 40th minute and was also responsible for the nearest approach to another goal from either side throughout when he hit a post in the second half with an admirable shot. City richly deserved their success against the division's bottom team. They showed far better ideas both defensively and in attack and made Bradford look crude by comparison. The home forwards could make little impression on the resolute City defence and goalkeeper John Smout was given such admirable cover that his anxieties were restricted to a minimum, From the time that Banks hit that vital goal, it was a question of how many City would win by and it was a poor finishing that prevented Exeter from adding to their tally. They opened the way to the Bradford goal far more frequently than their own was in jeopardy and centre forward Dennis Coughlin missed two first class openings after the break

Match Summary

Although City won this game it really highlighted the weakness that has been
holding the side back all season-poor finishing. City had enough chances to have registered one of their biggest away wins in recent years, but at the end we had to be satisfied with one goal from Alan Banks.
