Exeter City have completed their longest round Britain trek of the season, and two points is all they have to show for it, Following their win at Bradford Park Avenue the City went down at Hartlepool, There was no score at half time but City should have scored in the 19th minute when Jimmy Blain from six yards out lofted the ball over an open goal, It was a costly miss for Exeter, for Hartlepool took control after that, Hartlepool scored two goals in 10 minutes at the start of the second half through McGovern and Bell, and it seemed to be all over for CitySuddenly however, Exeter pulled a goal back, Dennis Coughlin took a free kick about 25 yards out after Alan Banks had been brought down, and he found the net with a fine shot, Ten minutes from the end the result was put beyond all doubt when Cummings scored from the penalty spot after Keith Harvey had fouled the same player. So City lost the second game of their marathon trip, One success of the night was Coughlin who filled in at right half with John Newman's absence,

Match Summary

It was not until 10 minutes from the end that a penalty to Hartlepools destroyed our last hopes of snatching a point. Then the United's centre forward, Bobby Cummings, scored from the spot. All the goals were scored in the second half, Hartlepools gaining a 2-goal lead through McGovern and Bell, and Dennis Coughlin hitting his first league goal for the City-driving home a free-kick after Alan Banks had been brought down.

Attendance: 4,502.
