Match 43
13th April 1968
Wrexham (a)
SATURDAY 13th APRIL 1968.
ANOTHER AWAY POINT.
WREXHAM 0.
Livsey; Ingle, Bermingham; Powell, Showell, Bradbury; Beanland, Moir, Smith (Stacey), Kinsey, Griffiths,
EXETER CITY 0:
Smout; Smyth, Balson; Newman, Harvey, Huxford; Crawford, Banks, Coughlin, Pinkney, Corr,
Attendance: 3,500.
Another away point came from Exeter City's trip into Wales when they left Wrexham with a goalless draw, City got a point because of a planned defensive performance, Wrexham had more of the game than Exeter and put the defence under great pressure especially in the second half, Luck was on Exeter's side on a couple of occasions but they survived,
The defence stuck to their task and John Smout played brilliantly, he was beaten only once when Moir lobbed a shot over him but it struck the bar, The City's attacking play was limited, They put in a few useful moves in the first half but after the interval they were pushed back more as Wrexham kept up the pressure, The only time City looked like scoring came in the second half, John Corr just missed a through pass from Alan Banks. City have now taken 7 points from their last 6 away fixtures and this could be vital in their fight against re-election,
Match Summary
With the attack in its present form our only hope at Wrexham was to play for a point. This we did with credit. Everyone stuck to the task whole heartedly and although we had one or two anxious moments we managed to hang on for the point we so desperately needed.
