Reading 2-0 Exeter City

What the papers say

Reading Chronicle : Exeter were probably a better side than our previous opponents, Stockport, but they never looked capable of breaking down a Reading defence which now had this extraordinary record of being the safest in the country.

Daily Express : Reading Hit Goal Trail

Tony Wagstaff put Reading on the road to victory with their first goal in four games, but he needed a stroke of luck to do so. Exeter 'keeper Bob Wilson left his line to collect a 41st-minute shot from Terry Bell, but found himself stranded by a deflection off a defender. Wagstaff latched on to the loose ball to hit a first-time drive into the net from 30 yards. Exeter's lone front runners Fred Binney and Dick Plumb worked tirelessly, but lacked support to crack a well-organised Reading defence which has conceded only two goals in siх home League games.
