Bradford City (a)
Saturday, December 30th 1972
Bradford City 4, Exeter City 0
Having beaten bottom-of-the-League Darlington 7-0 the previous Saturday, we faced an Exeter side in the top four, but still the goals came, with the game virtually over by half-time. In the ninth minute, Alan Gilliver headed his 14th League goal of the season from a John Hall centre, and then Hall again, 14 minutes later, headed an Ian Cooper free kick into a crowded goalmouth where Gerry Ingram rammed it into the net. Exeter's defence was finding it extremely difficult to cope, and in the 26th minute Graham Oates headed in a corner from the irrepressible Hall,
Exeter, after the re-start, made determined bids to get back into the game, with Graham Parker just wide with a fine effort. Ronnie Brown limped off in the 52nd minute to be replaced by Garry Watson, and after John Ritchie had made a commendable save from Fred Binney, Watson, with 12 minutes to go, ended the scoring from an Ingram centre.
