YOUNG REES SOLVES EXETER'S LEFT-WING PROBLEM
HAS PART IN BOTH CITY GOALS
By EXONIAN
Western Morning News
Exeter City 2, Queen's Park Rangers 1
ONE of Exeler City's wing problems is solved. The other persists if the display against Queen's Park Rangers is a true guide. At outside-left, 17-year-old Graham Rees did all that was expected, and more. He combined intelligently with his Inside partner, Angus Mackay, his ball control was good and he was ever alert to move into an open space. But, best of all. liked this youngster's always thoughtful. generally accurate, passing. From him began the movements from which the two City goals resulted. While Rees was a success, Arnold Mitchell was far from happy at outside-right. He was slow to anticipate and wild shooting was another fault
Better balanced.
My advice to Exeter is this: Mitchell is a good wing half-back and he should be played in that position. Rangers were the better balanced side in a goalless first half, and it was during this period that Geoff Morton, the City's recently-signed goalkeeper, had many opportunities of proving his worth. Morton was safe at all times during the opening snell, yet I do not hold him blameless when the Rangers took the lead two minutes after the restart Fred Davey. victim of a head injury early on, cleared weakly to the waiting Bobby Cameron. The visiting inside forward's angled shot from almost on the edge of the penalty area, took Morton by surprise and the goalkeeper moved late to a ball behind which there was no real pace.
Rugby tackle
From that point there was no questioning the home site's superiority An equalising goal soon followed when Rees crossed a perfect lowcentre beyond the goalkeeper's reach, In rushed Bill Eilaway to head into the net.
The winning goal came in the 62nd minute, Rees passed low and slant wise into the penalty area, and Ray John and Mike Powell chased the ball in a thrilling race. Goalkeeper Gullan made a desperate advance and falled to gain possession in the face of John's stern challenge. The ball ran loose Gutlan hurled himself at the Exeter centre forward's feet. John fell headlong from the goalkeeper's Rugby-like tackle, and Angus Mackay shot the City to victory from the penalty
Credit goes to Exeter's defence as a whole, and to right back Brian Dovle especially, He did not put a fool wrong.
A THRILLING STRUGGLE
The City came from behind to win a game which developed from rather an uninteresting start into a thrilling struggle. While the Rangers were the superior side in the opening stages, the City gradually got on top and it was against the run of the play when the visitors went ahead. After the goal had been scored the City called the tune, and a very pleasing feature was the form shown by the 17 years old Graham Rees. This young player is full of promise, and at times he used the ball with the judgment of an experienced craftsman. Ellaway's return added to the effectiveness of the attack, and John, speedy and shirking nothing, did enough to earn an extended trial at centre forward. Mitchell, though, is a better half back than he is a forward. Brian Doyle took the honours in defence.

DODGIN BUSY:
AND RESERVES WIN 2-1
Dodgin, playing his first game of the season for Exeter City Reserves against Lovell's at Newport today, broke up attacks by the Welshmen, but when he went into the attack he headed the ball straight into the hands of the goalkeeper. At the interval the City were leading by a goal to nil.
