GOAL PUNCH STILL LACKING:
CITY'S FIFTH DRAW.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 9TH 1963

EXETER CITY 0 HALIFAX 0

The seven thousand spectators at St James's Park had to endure yet another draw with no goals, and another game that the City should have won fairly comfortably. Exeter have now shared the points in five of their first seven home matches, and it is not the way they are going to stay at the top end of the Fourth Division.

Yesterday Peter Phoenix, an outside left, of Rochdale and formerly of Oldham Athletic, was signed on, and perhaps he will help in the matter of goalscoring. But in this, his first match for Exeter, he was played out of position, at inside right, and had to concentrate more on making chances than taking them.

Exeter City:- Barnett; Smyth and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; Rees, Phoenix, Henderson, Spiers, and Ley.

Halifax Town:- Downsborough; Russell and Roscoe; Jackson, Richardson, and Harrison; Twist, Worthington, Arnell, Carlin, and Taylor.

Referee:- Mr G.Davis of Romford.

The plan to which the City are playing certainly makes them a very difficult team to beat, but at present the defence is carrying the whole side on its shoulders, and until they sign someone capable of moving in to make room for himself and thumping the ball into the back of the net they will continue to draw games which they ought to win. And Curtis, who is laid up with a troublesome injury to his thigh, is badly missed.
