SATURDAY 12th OCTOBER 1963.

CITY SLUMP TO SECOND DEFEAT OF SEASON.

CHESTER 2,
Reeves; Molyneux, J.Evans; Hauser, Butler, GEvans; Haddock, Humes, Talbot, Bades, Lee,
EXETER CITY 0
Barnett; Smyth, MacDonald; Mitchell, 'Harvey, Anderson; Rees, Phoenix, Henderson, Spiers, Ley.

City suffered only their second League defeat of the season at Chester, yet the irritating thing was that at regular intervals through this game City produced patches of near perfect football as if to prove that they were really a superior side and worth their place near the top of the table. Irritating because they never really lived up to those patches of promise,

Nothing really went right, Chester got goals in the 16th minute from Talbot and in the 50th minute from Lee, Meanwhile City' alternately glided and fumbled around without getting anywhere. The game was lost after the second goal, the idea that City could score three was laughablke, for they did not put in one effort that looked like a goal, indeed it was not until the closing minutes that City were even remotely like scoring when a header from Spiers went over the bar,

Barnett was constantly in action in the second half and made saves which verged on the brilliant as Chester strolled around his penalty area taking pot shots. This was easily City's worst performance of the season and certainly the defence have not played as badly all season.
