Although they acquired two more players yesterday Exeter stuck to the team which beat Tranmere on Wednesday and lifted them to fourth place in the League table.

Gough, a native of Belfast is 26 years of age, and is an unknown quantity, having played all his football in Ireland. Banks is a year younger and played several games for Liverpool before he was allowed to go to Cambridge, a club outside the League, and for whom he has scored many goals.

Exeter City:- Barnett; Smyth and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; Rees, Edgar, Curtis, Henderson, and Phoenix.

Referee: Mr A.Edge of Liverpool.

There was a sensational start at Barrow. With the game less than a minute old Harvey conceded a penalty when he brought down Darwin in the area. Darwin took the kick himself, shooting to the left of the City goalkeeper. But Barnett dived and beat the ball away to make his second penalty save of the season. And the game ended as sensationally as it had began, with a penalty kick, this time to Exeter as two Barrow defenders handled a shot by Henderson which was bound for the net. Harvey stepped up and made no mistake, scoring with the very last kick of the game.

Attendance 3214.
