CITY'S FINE DISPLAY PROVIDES A GREAT VICTORY.
SATURDAY DECEMBER 14TH
EXETER CITY 4 BRADFORD CITY 1.
Exeter City are showing commendable enterprise and are really "going it" in the transfer market this season. Following the acquisition of Phoenix, Gough, and Banks, another new forward has joined the club in the person of Adrian Thorne. The new player, who is 26 years old, comes to Exeter from Plymouth Argyle, where he has been for the last two seasons after spending the previous seven with Brighton & Hove Albion, his "home-town" team. He led the City attack today.
Exeter City:- Barnett; Smyth and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; Rees, Banks, Thorne, Grace, and Phoenix.
Bradford City:- Fisher; Kelly and Ellam; Stowell, Smith, and Harland; Sawyer, Wragg, Green, Price, and Hellawell.
Referee:- Mr K.H. Burns, of Dudley.
Attendance 5566
This was a really good substantial win by Exeter City, the sort of performance that they need to achieve to remain near the top of the League table. With exactly half of their matches completed the City stand in fourth place with one point advantage over Brighton & Hove Albion. Carlisle, Gillingham, and Workington are above Exeter. In today's game there was tremendous strength and coolness in the City's defence, and Banks was again outstanding as a raider. Adrian Thorne had a fairly quiet but none the less effective game, and he was unlucky not to have had a share in the scoring spree. Banks and Mitchell obtained the City's first half goals without a reply from Bradford City. After the interval Ellam, harassed by the ever-threatening Banks, in trying to give Fisher the ball placed it wide of him and into his own net. Grace got Exeter's fourth with a slashing drive into the roof of the net, and Harland with a penalty scored for Bradford.
