Match 09
18th October 1911
Southern Charity Cup
Plymouth Argyle (Home)
Wednesday, October 18th 1911.
CITY V ARGYLE
Charity Cup-Tie, at St. James's Park:
In this second round tie at Exeter neither side was fully represented. The Argyle included two reserve forwards, while the City were forced to make changes on account of Whittaker and Watson being injured on Saturday.
The match had been well advertised as a "great attraction", and the ground was filling up well when the teams appeared at 3.25. Exeter City had beaten Swindon in the first round, and they and the Argyle were now the only Western teams left in the competition. Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle had met once previously this season, the match, at Home Park in September, ending in a draw of a goal each.

ARGYLE:
Play in the first half was fast and exciting, with little to choose between the teams. Wilcox shot well but too high, for the Pilgrims, and Rutter, for the City, was ruled offside when he had the goal at his mercy. Rutter and Lockett each had shots saved by Horne, and Garside missed an easy chance from Parnell's centre, while in another raid Rutter hit the crossbar. In the second half play was nearly all in Exeter's favour, and Parnell twice broke through only to shoot against the side of the net.
Result, a goalless draw.
