Whiteheads was a factory at Ferrybridge(Wyke Regis), just off Portland which built torpedos. Named after Robert Whitehead. I know they still had a football team in the 1940s. The factory employed over 900 back in the day. It is now a housing development but there is a Portland stone plinth commemorating the site. I lived in that part of Weymouth back in the late seventies.
