Hiley Bamsey WW2

Biographical Text

Hiley Bamsey from Woodbury in East Devon served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during the Second World War Two and was killed in Iraq on 31 December 1943. He is buried in Khayat Beach War Cemetery near Haifa and commemorated on the war memorial in Woodbury.

Having previously played for his home villlage of Woodbury, he made his Exeter City debut as an eighteen-year-old amateur in the 1-1 draw in a Third Division South fixture at Queens Park Rangers on 13 April 1935.
He had to wait until the following season before given another senior opportunity and was in-and-out of the side until he left the club in 1938 when he signed for Barrow for whom he did not make a first-team appearance.
