Ethan Ampadu was born in Exeter on September 14, 2000, and is the son of former Grecians midfielder, Kwame Ampadu. During his time at the club's academy, Ethan displayed plenty of promise during his development which resulted in him playing in several year groups above his true age. In the 2016/17 season, Paul Tisdale selected Ethan for first-team matters, and, on 9th August 2016, at just 15 years, 10 months and 26 days, Ethan became the club’s youngest ever player when he featured in the Grecians' 1-0 victory over Brentford at St James Park in the EFL Cup, where he was named man of the match following a superb 120-minute performance. Ethan’s breakthrough season saw him make 13 City appearances across all competitions in both defence and midfield. Ethan's successful rise saw him move to Stamford Bridge in July 2017, before he made his Chelsea debut a few months later. After signing a new five-year deal with the Blues, Ethan has continued his development away from the club. Following a season at RB Leipzig, the defender joined Sheffield United on loan ahead of the 2020/21 season. After selecting to represent Wales, Ethan has also enjoyed success at international level. After making his Dragons debut in November 2017, the defender has 20 caps to date, which has included appearances against England and the Republic of Ireland. Ethan is tipped to have a big future, and is certainly a player that Exeter fans are proud to call 'one of our own'.
