Walter's performances for Clapton alerted the attentions of Tottenham Hotspur, who signed him in 1909. In doing so he became one of the first footballer's of mixed-heritage to play in England's top division. However despite excelling in his position, Tull was subjected to racial abuse and was subsequently dropped from the team.
